Life In The Pacific Northwest
Poetry became part of my life decades ago. My first memory involving poetry: a creative writing class from seventh grade. Poetry and writing remain crucial parts of my life to this day.
I find my inspiration in the commonplace, in everyday experiences, in current events. My daily meditations grant me a great deal of clarity, which comes in verse.
Currently, I’m focusing short-form poetry. Predominantly I’m writing haiku/senryu with some tanka. For the past few years, I’ve worked to post a haiku daily. Though not perfect, I’ve been able to stick to that schedule pretty well. Some longer forms come to me, too, though mostly in free-verse.
Rain’s gentle patter
Calming me in the pre-dawn
Resisting waking
Rain soothes me.

Seattleite heart.
A little haiku looking at Seattle’s, and the region’s weather of late. Happy Saturday night!
Friday’s snow melted
Traces of white poking through
Winter’s just begun
We’ve been exploring Yellowstone the past few days. I haven’t been here since the 80s, which adds some fun to the trip.
Today had a few favorite moments. One, here I am in Wyoming snapping sone photos of bison and I end up chatting with a cyclist from Wallingford. Tim Tower is a great guy and I loved our far-too-brief chat. Maybe I’ll run into him again since he lives relatively close. We can hope!
I also ran into this wacky RV.
It had an old Mission Orange sign attached to, along with surf boards and stuff. Driven by a fun family with twin 12 year olds, I believe. Anyway, anyone know them and their back story, I’d love to learn more about them. These folks, too, have a Northwest connection. They were up here recently, including Port Townsend, one of my favorites.
Anyway, if anyone knows them, let me know.
Anyway, just a update from the road. You can follow my adventures on Snapchat, too. At least once I reconnect to cell service.

A day in Edmonds
I love the tranquil feeling of walking along the Edmonds shoreline. One of my favorite places on earth. Memories; of my my grandparents, my mom, my wife and now watching my son grow up. All these upon the sandy shores near the ferry. Part of what makes the place home.
