I must confess that I’ve never been on the Underground Tour in Pioneer Square. It’s on my proverbial “bucket list”, but what that’s worth. Simon Whistler put together a great video explaining Seattle’s Underground. It is a quirky history, to be sure.
If you’re interested in taking the tour yourself, here’s the info. And enjoy the video below. Now I’m thinking about writing articles focused on Lou Graham and Bill Seidel. Is that something you’d like to read? Leave me a comment and let me know.
Friends and neighbors, Edmonds’ own Gothard Sisters released a new song this past week. I highly recommend giving them a listen. It’s a very pleasant and joyful one.
Some important intel about area traffic. Here’s the TLDR:
Crews working on the Lynnwood Link Extension will be closing the southbound lanes of I-5 South from 220th Street SW to SR 104 in Mountlake Terrace overnight on Saturday, June 26 for construction that will allow the light rail alignment to cross over the highway. Northbound traffic lanes will remain open.
If you’ve been in Washington for a significant amount of time, you’ll have heard of the Handford Nuclear Reservation. A key part of the Manhatten Project, having supplied plutonium for the Hiroshima bomb, amongst others, this site has a huge legacy. Besides the history of the weapons, there’s the ecological nightmare that’s been decades in cleaning, with decades more until it’s “safe”.
Simon Whistler gives a great, brief overview of the site’s history and legacy. I recommend checking it out. I have a personal history with eastern Washington, and with the Hanford Downwinders. I appreciate all efforts to bring light to this.
Dear readers, Ema Catalan, a student at Mountlake Terrace Highschool has run away from home. If you have any information, please let the Bothell Police Department know, 425-487-5550.
I’ve been negligent here. My apologies. Time has been…challenging, to say the least. I noticed today just how far behind my geek pages have fallen. As we slowly crawl our way out of the pandemic, there are new events scheduled. There are several events scheduled, both virtual and in-person (much later in the year). Also, a few of the geek businesses have changed/gone out of business (sadly, including one of my favorites, Otherworlds). But I got everything caught up.
Clearly, Zuri’s is a great part of our community. Though I don’t really relish longer lines, I think everyone should swing by and give them your support (directions at this link).
I’ve driven past Everett’s Vintage Cafe dozens (100s?) of times, but have never made my way down to it. After watching Live In Everett’s YouTube video about it, though, I realize I need to fix that. Of course, after the pandemic lock-downs have passed. Sadly, it’s a bit far away for us to go there for takeout.
Its been quite the snow filled few days here just north of Seattle. The whole region got a good dumping, and yesterday stayed below freezing. It’s supposed to warm up and start raining overnight. Thus, I expect most of the snow will melt away tomorrow and Tuesday. I did grab a few good photos, though.
I’ve been an avid cyclist pretty much all of my life. For nearly a decade I went without owning a car, where my bike was my main mode of transportation, along with buses and feet. Over these past few decades in suburbia, I’ve lost some of my advidness. But this is still my soul. Now, good ol’ YouTube has detected this and started feeding me videos to get my love re-ignited.
Though I’ve been been a fixie/fix-gear rider, I am enthralled with those who ride ’em. And especially those who ride them in cities. Bold! With “fixie mulhouse – my legs are my gear”, I enjoy watching them ride through the city. I also wish I had a group of rider friends back in those days for me.
This one is a blast. Reminds me of the days when any potential girlfriend needed to love cycling as much as me. (I’m fortunate that this description fits my wife)
Now, though most of my cycling is urban, I have a lot of experience mountain biking. I’ve long admired trials riders like Hans Rey and Danny Macaskill, who blows my mind. His talent, balance, and skill are, simply, amazing. I’m proud that I can do a track stand.
Lastly, I have been adding things to my cycling playlist on YouTube. Give it a look!
